Known by many
names: Sway Bars, Load Levelers etc. These
systems are useful in towing by aiding
stability from the towing vehicle to the
caravan, and reducing sway and bounce of the
caravan, particularly on a less than perfect
road surface.
Sway bars also assist
in keeping, the angle from the drawbar of the
caravan to the towbar of the vehicle at the
optimal towing position ie level or slightly
down at the towball. All in all these systems
give a more comfortable tow when
traveling.
The best range of these
systems we feel are Hayman Reese, but there
are many brands available to suit all
budgets. For more information regarding
Hayman Reese contact Terry at Great Eastland
Caravans in Northern NSW on (02) 6621

All late model
vehicles have a recommended towing weight in
their Handbook or Manual. This should be
taken into account when purchasing a caravan.
However in general a
medium sized 4 cylinder 2 litre car (eg
Camry, Magna, Sigma etc) would probably be
capable of towing caravans up to 800kg.
Larger 6 cylinder vehicles (eg Commodore,
Falcon etc) would tow around 16 - 18
ft.
